Super J vs. The Monkey Bars

Our little super hero, Jaxon, found out that he doesn’t actually have super powers. We went to the park Thursday morning and it was such a nice day. It was cloudy and not too hot and not too cold. Perfect….I was playing on the iPod while the kids played on the playground. After we had been there a while Jaxon got in line to go across some monkey bars. I sat at a table and out of the corner of my eye, I saw Jaxon get on the bars, and he was going across okay, but then on one of the bars somehow his hand slipped or he judged the distance all wrong and down he went. I jumped up and started walking over to him. I called his name and asked him if he was okay, but he didn’t say anything. He just stood up, and his face was white as a ghost. He looked like he was going to pass out or throw up. He came running to me holding his arm close to his body. He told me to pour some water on his arm. I had some cold water in a water bottle, and I think he figured the cold water would make it feel better. I asked him if he could move his fingers and was trying to tell if it was a serious injury or not. He was acting like he was in a lot of pain, so I tried to gather up all the kids so we could go run to the instacare. I got Jaxon, Berkley, and Keaton all in the car, but Parker didn’t realize what was going on or why we were leaving, so as I was getting the others in the van, he ran off back to the playground. So, I had to go chase him down while Jaxon was screaming in the van about how much his arm was hurting. I finally caught Parker and hauled him to the van and off we went to the instacare. The whole time we were driving Jaxon was screaming and crying and he even told me, “Don’t drive right there!” He said that because I was going over some bumps and it made his arm hurt. I have never seen Jaxon quite like that before. He was really upset. He kept yelling, “My arm is broken. It hurts. I can’t calm down.” He just kept saying that over and over again. Well, we made it to the instacare and all the crying and screaming really helped, because the nurses got us right back. We didn’t have to wait at all. And, they did some X-rays, and sure enough he fractured his wrist. The x-rays were interesting, because they wanted me to go in and sit by Jaxon so he would be calm while they did the x-rays, but I couldn’t leave the kids in the room by themselves so I took them all in to the x-ray room. They ended up having to stand just outside the door, because they aren’t allowed in the room while they do the x-rays, so it was a little crazy. But we got through it, and I even ended up coming home with all the kids. :) I don’t have any pictures of his cast yet. It’s been kind of crazy, and I just haven’t even had a chance to take any pix, but I will take some in the next few days. He will be in a cast for 4-6 weeks…..I don’t exactly how long yet. We go see an orthopedic surgeon next week, and then I guess we’ll see what they say. The doctor at the instacare told me it was a common break among kids and he was pretty sure he wouldn’t need any surgery or anything. Now Jaxon is doing much better, and really likes to tell anyone who asksĀ  what happened to his arm. I guess the little daredevil/superhero finally met his match. :) Those monkey bars can be brutal.

Boulder Climbing

Jaxon is thinking: “Interesting rock. I think I need to climb it.”

The Historic Land of Four Seasons

So we spent memorial day weekend in Beaver, Utah with Kristin’s family. Beaver used to have this awesome billboard with a cartoon beaver riding a four wheeler in the mountains. If that wasn’t awesome enough, it also featured the tagline “Beaver: The Historic Land of Four Seasons.” That pretty much sums up what is special about Beaver. It’s got history, and every year, without fail, there are four seasons. Now there is another billboard touting the fact that Beaver won a prestigous award of best tasting water in the U.S. The water is pretty good, I have to admit.

Anyway, it’s always a treat to be back in the historic land of four seasons. Here’s some photos from the trip.

Sunday we spent some time at Cove Fort, a historic site for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Very good tour. This is about 65% of Kristin’s family. Two of the kids and their families are missing. Marchants, click on the photo for a larger version if you want a copy.

On Saturday we went to the Fremont Indian State Park and hiked around and saw the museum. We tried to hike Bullion Falls outside of Marysvale, but we got rained out. Monday we had breakfast at the park across from the Marchants. As an extreme parent, I’m always pround when our children look past the safety rails and common sense and make a normal playground toy something truly dangerous. Oh, and speaking of living dangerously, Keaton’s cast is not the result of an injury, just part of his physical therapy to help him use his left arm.

Anyway, we had a good trip and we even spent a night at Maple Canyon outside of Ephraim on the way home. I put some photos on my photo blog.
